Classy place by Cheryl R. at InsiderPages
I agree that this is a snobby place but they have earned it by the reputaion and the well run dinning and bar. A great place to meet and greet. Food is great and drinks are made just right.

A beautiful location in Southside
This is a fantastic restaurant. The food is excellent and just as good as the service. People who eat there are always happy when they leave. The food is prepared by such a fantastic chef who has class. This is a great place for a dinner date that is romantic or a wonderful place to take out your clients.

A Great Night Out
For some reason, I had always wanted to go to this bistro. Mrs. Flanders, being penny-wise, said ?no,? it was too pricey. Well, life is too short so we agreed to go on my birthday, the 29th of the month! I might add, there?s a certain child-like excitement about one?s birthday. Mrs. Flanders started a month out to book the place and it is already turn-away-customers - full! Their web site said this is the spot were the American South meets the South of France. We shall see. I do know their Appetizer list includes Stone Ground Baked Grits and Fried Green Tomatoes. Sounds promising. What about their other foods? I also want to know if their waiters are haughty. I?ll report. And are the drinks and wine good? I?ll enlighten you! We arrived in our coupe for their road side Valet Parking. So far, so good! We were dressed to the 9?s!! The facade of the place had a Federal look to it. Nice. The inside was a typical, fine dining style. On to the children?s hour! Mrs. Flanders had the Orange Thing, a tasty concoction of vodka, triple sec and OJ and I had an Italian Negorne, mix 1 part gin, 1 part sweet vermouth, Compari and a squeeze of orange fruit. And I didn?t even have to tell them how to make it. Incredible! The appetizer course was delicious for both of us. Mrs. Flanders had some yummy fried and breaded oysters and I had truly out-of-this-world foie gras. The entire meal would have been worth this! For the main selection I had the Leg of Lamb and lamb chop; very succulent melt-in-your-mouth good! Mrs. Flanders partook of the braised duck. Equally tasty! It was all washed down with a dry 1999 red French Pomerol, which indeed was worthy of the occasion! A word about their waiters: ours was originally from Norway and attended to our every need; most friendly and not at all haughty. Well, there you have it. On a scale of 0 to 100, I would rate this eatery 98, with 2 points off as pricy (as usual, Mrs. Flanders was right). I recommend!

Not quite all it is made out to be
I think it is the owner's celebrity stauts that makes this place so popular. The food is good, but for the money, there are certainly much better to be had here in town. Overall I feel that it is just a little above average. Service does have a little bit to be desired. Dessert is worth staying for.

Awesome 5-star service! by Terry E. at InsiderPages
The atmosphere is wonderful, the food heavenly! You must try the bake grits appetizer and the martinis are to die for. Yeah, it's pricey, the waiters and owner are snobby, but hey, the meal and drinks are well worth it. This is a landmark of Birmingham that is not to be missed!
PROS: Awesome food and atmosphere CONS: Snobby waiters and owner

truly a world class restaurant by Alice W. at InsiderPages
Fine Dining with excellent service. The food is unbelievable. The atmosphere is luxurious and classy, yet relaxed enough for any night of the week. This is the perfect client dinner, birthday celebration, impressive date, or just a great night out. The only problem is restraining yourself from licking the plate!! Be sure and buy Frank Stitt's Cookbook, Southern Table, too!
